St Petersburg authorities urge people to donate accordions for the mobilised

Authorities in Russia’s Saint Petersburg have set up collection points where people may hand in their musical instruments for the mobilised servicemen, the authorities say on their social media, ASTRA reports.

Backed by the Defence Ministry, the campaign expects to collect numerous accordions, harmonicas, guitars, and balalaikas “with the purpose of boosting morale, team-building, creating inspiration for gallant deeds, and providing moral and mental relief [among the conscripts]”.

The collection points are located in various military-related museums across the city.

“All volunteers may donate necessary musical instruments to collection points, for those to be eventually sent into the special military operation zone,” the statement reads.

Moscow’s mayor Sobyanin suggested earlier that the New Year festivities be held this year as usual, but donating the revenues to support the “special operation”.
