Baza, Astra: airfield in Saratov region attacked by drone

A drone attacked an airfield in Russia’s Saratov region, as per Baza, Astra, and Ostorozhno Novosti.

Baza says a drone “crashed” on the runway of the local airfield, damaging two aircraft. Two people were also injured, the Telegram channel says.

Astra says the explosion occurred at the Engels-1 air base; two Tu-95 bombers were damaged. Several servicemen were injured and admitted to hospital.

Ostorozhno Novosti cites Engels residents who say that a loud explosion was heard at night, and the neighbourhood close to the airfield was sealed off by security officers shortly afterwards.

There is no official confirmation of the incident. Videos allegedly showing the moment of the explosion are being shared on social media.

Roman Busargin, the local governor, says that “no emergencies occurred in the residential areas of the city” and not a single civilian infrastructure facility was damaged. “The information about any incidents at military facilities is being checked by law enforcement agencies,” he added.

Media reported an explosion that killed three people at an airfield in Ryazan earlier today.
