Shershnev’s friends say that he was detained upon entering his house on 28 November. Men in civilian clothes followed him in, one of them said: “Criminal police, we have orders to take you to a conscription office.” Then the men threatened Daniil that he would be forcibly taken should he resist to go.

Shershnev gave a call to his legal advisor who convinced him that this would be a “temporary measure” and that the young man would only receive a draft notice and be told to attend a medical examination. Soon after the call, the young man became out of reach on the phone.

“When we arrived at the conscription office we were informed that Daniil had been already taken to a distribution centre ‘in the army, to serve for the railroad troops.’ His mother was not allowed inside the distribution centre and responded to all our questions regarding his whereabouts with ‘this is undisclosed information,” Daniil’s friends say.

Yekaterina, the artist’s girlfriend, has told Holod that he was not registered with the conscription office and had no military ID.

According to her, the young man was kept at the draft office without a cell phone. None of his relatives were allowed inside, and then he was sent to a military unit in the Tver region for military service. Daniil managed to get in touch with his closest ones as he asked the driver who took him to the military unit to lend him his phone.

“Before this, the draft office employees forged all the necessary documents by signing them instead of Shershnev himself,” Holod says.

Arseny Levinson, a lawyer, says Daniil has gastric ulcer, so he needs to be admitted to hospital, which Levinson will be trying to help him with.

Yegor Beschastnov, a member of the Libertarian Party, was forcibly taken to a draft office and conscripted for military service yesterday. He was released several hours later and handed a draft notice scheduled for 1 December. The man is running the risk of getting conscripted on 6 December.
