A burial site with more than 50 dead bodies of civilians has been found in Lyman, a city in the Donetsk region recently liberated by Ukraine, Hromadske reports.

Some graves have name tags, the rest only have numbers. As Hromadske says, Russia’s soldiers “dug up trenches and forced people who they believed were cooperating with the Ukrainian army to collect dead bodies for reburial.” Sometimes people would bury their dead neighbours. “Not all dead people have been identified yet as some bodies remained unburied for a long time,” one of the locals says.

Russians did not take the dead bodies of their own soldiers with them when they left. “They used one of the houses as a first-aid post. They took the wounded when they left the town, and left the dead bodies here,” Hromadske says.

Ukraine’s President Zelensky reported full control over Lyman on 2 October, this was later confirmed by Russia’s MoD.
