Death toll in Russia’s Izhevsk school shooting rises to 15

At least 15 people were killed in the school shooting in Russia’s Izhevsk — among them 11 children and four adults. Furthermore, 24 people were injured — 22 children and two adults, reports Russia’s Investigative Committee.

It was also previously reported by the Investigative Committee that there were two teachers and two security guards among the victims.

The investigation continues, the committee added.

Today, 26 September, a shooting occurred in school 88 in the Russian city of Izhevsk. A man dressed in black stormed into the school during lessons, shot the security guard, and then went into a classroom and opened fire on children.

According to the Investigative Committee, the attacker was Artem Kazantsev, 34, Izhevsk native and graduate of the school he had conducted the shooting in.

It is reported that the attacker shot himself. The Investigative Committee’s official Telegram channel posted a video, which allegedly shows the body of the shooter: the man is dressed in black, a red swastika is painted on his T-shirt.

“Currently, the Investigative Committee detectives are conducting a search at the residence of the attacker, his personality, views, and environment are being studied. His adherence to neo-fascist views and Nazi ideology is being looked into,” the agency’s statement reads. A criminal case on killing two and more persons was initiated, as well as a criminal case on illegal possession of weapons, the agency added.

Udmurtia’s head Alexander Brechalov announced a mourning period for the victims in the region until 29 September.
