The body with a gunshot wound of the chief of the Kropyvnytskyi region department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Oleksandr Nakonechnii, was found yesterday evening in the region's administrative centre, Kropyvnytskyi, reports outlet Ukrainska Pravda, citing the SBU press service.
“The Security Service of Ukraine and State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death of the chief of the Kropyvnytskyi region SBU department. After the information has been collected in full and analysed, we will inform the society [on the findings],” Ukrainska Pravda quotes the press service’s statement.
Oleksandr Nakonechnii served as chief of the Kropyvnytskyi region SBU department from January 2021. Before that, he served in counterintelligence for two years and in the Kyiv Office for Prevention of Corruption and Organised Crime for more than ten years.
The Kropyvnytskyi region is located in the central part of Ukraine. There is no active combat there, however Kropyvnytskyi, the administrative centre of the region, was shelled twice by the Russian troops. Both times were at the end of July. As a result of the first shelling, three people were killed and at least 13 were injured. As a result of the second shelling, five people were killed and 25 people were injured.
