Gazprom stops another Nord Stream turbine

Russian gas giant Gazprom has ceased the use of another Siemens gas-turbine engine, located at the compressor station “Portovaya”, announced the company on Telegram.

“Due to the fact that the total operating time between repairs of the engine has been reached, and it now has to undergo major maintenance (in accordance with the order by Roctechnadzor (Russia’s Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision Federal Service) and considering the technical condition of the engine), Gazprom is stopping the exploitation of another Siemens gas-turbine engine at the compressor station “Portovaya”,” reads the message. Starting tomorrow, the output of the station will be down to 67 million cubic metres per day.

Previously, Gazprom announced a 40% reduction in natural gas deliveries to Germany via the Nord Stream pipeline, down to 100 million million cubic metres per day (instead of the planned 167 million cubic metres per day). Gazprom blamed the German engineering giant Siemens for failing to restore key turbines “on time”.

Today, Italian energy company Eni received a notification from Gazprom, saying that it will be reducing its gas deliveries by about 15%. The reasons are unknown at the moment.
