Russian gas flow to Germany drops by 40%

Russian gas giant Gazprom has announced a 40% reduction in natural gas deliveries to Germany via the Nord Stream pipeline, the company’s PR office reports.

Gazprom blames the German engineering giant Siemens for failing to restore key turbines “on time”.

“Due to the fact that Siemens failed to repair the turbines on time, as well as their worn-out state and technical malfunction, at present, only three gas compressor units can be used at our booster station,” reads the company’s statement.

Siemens Energy said a gas turbine that powers a compressor station on the pipeline had been in service for more than 10 years and had been taken to Montreal for a scheduled overhaul. But because of sanctions imposed by Canada, the company has been unable to return the equipment to the customer, Gazprom. “We are working on a sustainable solution,” Siemens Energy said in their statement.
