Ukraine sanctions Putin, Mishustin, Shoigu, hundreds if Russian uni rectors

Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s president, has signed a decree sanctioning a number of Russian officials, including Vladimir Putin and members of the cabinet. The decree was published on Zelensky’s official website.

A total of 35 high-ranking Russian officials made the list, including:

  • Mikhail Mishustin, Russia’s PM
  • Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman
  • Andrey Belousov, Mishustin’s First Deputy
  • Dmitry Chernyshenko, another Deputy PM
  • Sergei Shoigu, Defence Minister
  • Sergei Lavrov, Foreign Minister
  • Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Interior Minister
  • Mikhail Murashko, Healthcare Minister

and others.

The sanctions have no time limit. All sanctioned individuals will have their assets in Ukraine frozen and will be banned from entering the country.

Zelensky also imposed sanctions upon 261 rectors of various Russian universities and directly against 236 educational institutions, including the Moscow State University, the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Higher School of Economics and the Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

The sanctioned rectors will also have their Ukrainian assets frozen and will be disallowed to purchase real estate in the country. Scientific and cultural co-operation with the sanctioned institutions will be discontinued.
