Mediazona: employee of Russian Defence Ministry’s press service killed in Ukraine

Vladimir Ivanov, a 41-year-old colonel and employee of the Russian Defence Ministry’s press service, was killed in Ukraine. Mediazona news outlet confirmed his death.

Yevgeny Poddubny, a reporter working for the Russian state TV, wrote earlier that Ivanov was killed while “fighting Ukrainian Nazis”. Poddubny carried his portrait during an Immortal Regiment march on 9 May. The Immortal Regiment is an annual event during which people march across their city carrying portraits of relatives who fought in WWII.

“Another comrade has joined the Immortal Regiment. Colonel Ivanov. Volodya (a diminutive of Vladimir — editor’s note) was killed fighting Ukrainian neo-Nazis,” Poddubny wrote on his Telegram channel.

Ivanov was killed on 25 March, and his death was officially confirmed five days later, Mediazona reveals, citing probate records. The notary put the main building of the Russian Defence Ministry as Ivanov’s address.

Mediazona also notes that the colonel was mentioned on Myrotvorets, a Ukrainian website that publishes an online dossier of people considered “enemies of Ukraine”.
