Governor of Russia’s Belgorod region reports town of Shebekino being shelled, two people injured

The town of Shebekino in the Belgorod region of Russia has come under heavy fire, governor of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov says in a Telegram post.

“There are injured. A man with a chest wound, he’s in critical condition. He’s being provided all necessary medical help. A woman is being transported to the district hospital,” he said.

According to Gladkov, all shells struck civilian objects, including a mall and a sports complex. Windows and storefronts were damaged in the mall, as well as two cars located on the territory of the car park. An inflatable dome was damaged in the sports complex.

The territory is still being shelled, Gladkov added.

The near-border villages of the Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod regions of Russia have been getting regularly shelled since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On 18 October, Gladkov said that a railway station of one of the Belgorod region villages had been shelled. The train traffic was suspended temporarily following the shelling.

On 16 October, at least 16 explosions were documented in the sky over Russia’s Belgorod. Gladkov said that three men and one woman had been injured in the attack. Houses, fences, and cars were damaged in the shelling. On 15 October, an oil depot was shelled in the Belgorod region. One reservoir was damaged in the attack out of 10 total. The Shebekino customs checkpoint also came under attack.
