Russian political blogger Maxim Katz sentenced to 8 years imprisonment in absentia

A Moscow court sentenced blogger and political activist Maxim Katz, who currently resides outside of Russia, to 8 years in jail for spreading “fakes” about the Russian army, TASS reported Thursday morning.

The “fake” in question concerns a video published by Katz’ YouTube channel last April, where he spoke about the executions of civilians by the Russian army in Ukraine’s Bucha.

The prosecution demanded Katz be sent to prison for 10 years and banned from managing websites for five years.

Katz, who left Russia shortly after the invasion of Ukraine, was put on the federal wanted list last October and arrested in absentia in March.
