Moldova closes its airspace

Moldova has closed its airspace, all scheduled flights have been cancelled in the country, as per Air Moldova.

Update

15:34 Chisinau time Moldovan airspace has been re-opened, says the Civil Aviation Department of Moldova.

“Dear passengers, the airspace of the Republic of Moldova is closed at the moment, we are waiting for the flights to resume. Those who are at airports today, on board of planes or are preparing to depart are advised to stay calm and follow the information panels at the airports, as well as on the airline and airport websites,” the national carrier said in a statement.

HiSky, another air company, published a similar statement. Interfax reports, citing the Chisinau airport, that the decision was made “out of safety concerns” and will be valid until 16.00 local time.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu reported yesterday that Russia planned to carry out a coup in Moldova and bring people loyal to the Kremlin to power in the country. According to Sandu, Ukrainian secret services were the ones to inform Moldova of Russia’s plot. The plan includes attacks on government agencies and hostage taking, which will be masked as protests led by opposition, she says.
