Local authorities: Russia attacks Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions of Ukraine using Shahed kamikaze drones

In the early hours of 11 February, Russian forces attacked the Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions of Ukraine using the Shahed kamikaze drones, local authorities report.

The Kyiv region military administration warned local residents about the attack and called upon them to hide in shelters. “A drone attack warning. We ask residents to stay in safe places until the end of the air alert,” the message said.

Telegram channels report that air defence was activated in the Kyiv region and that two drones were shot down.

Head of the Dnipro region council Mykola Lukashuk says that there is destruction in the region following the overnight attack, the scale of the damage is unknown at the moment.

In particular, Russian troops attacked energy facilities in the Kryvyi Rih district. According to Lukashuk, one of the facilities has previously been damaged in another attack. Fires erupted at the locations of drone attacks, they were extinguished. A drone attack in the Nikopol district led to an energy infrastructure facility catching fire. The fire was extinguished, Lukashuk adds.

According to Ukraine’s Operational Command South, air defence shot down the Shahed drones on the approach towards the Odesa region and in the airspace of the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine. According to initial reports, no one was hurt.

Head of the Mykolaiv region military administration Vitaly Kim confirms that three drones were shot down by Ukraine’s air defence. In the Odesa region, the air defence shot down four Iranian drones Shahed — head of the Odesa region military administration Maksym Marchenko says that the drones targeted energy infrastructure facilities.

The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports in its daily bulletin that Russian forces carried out a new massive missile strike against Ukraine and launched over 100 missiles against critical and civil infrastructure on 10 February. “Russian claims of the scale and effectiveness of the strikes are overblown in comparison to official Ukrainian statements, and Russian forces continue to expend already limited stocks of precision munitions on such strikes,” ISW notes.
