Media: two foreigners detained in Slovenia over suspicions of spying for Russia

The Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency (SOVA) has detained two foreigners in Ljubljana after they raised suspicion of spying for Russia, 24ur.com, Siol and Delo report citing sources.

Both foreigners have citizenship of a South American country, Delo claims. The detainees worked undercover and used falsified documents to trade real estate and antiques.

According to 24ur.com, the foreigners served in the Russian military intelligence unit as part of a sleeper agent network with falsified documents and altered names.

“The Ljubljana district state prosecution has received a notice from the Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency, based on which a pre-trial investigation was launched,” Siol was told.

The detainees are now facing up to eight years in prison, Siol adds.

Last week, German citizen Artur E. was detained in the Munich airport over suspicions of working for the Russian intelligence service.
