The Ukrainian capital is targeted by missile strikes, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. According to him, rescue services discovered one dead body at the site.
“The capital is under attack. The Pechersk district has been hit, two residential buildings according to preliminary reports. Several missiles were shot down by air defence systems over Kyiv. Medical workers and rescue services are at the site,” he noted.
Trukha Telegram channel published a video allegedly showing what happened to the building that was hit by a missile.
The Ukrainian president’s office also reported that two missiles had landed on two residential buildings and urged people to stay in shelters.
“The air defence system intercepted a guided missile over Kyiv that was aimed at a critical infrastructure facility. Missile fragments landed on residential buildings in the Druzhby Narodiv area. There are those injured,” adviser to the interior minister Anton Herashchenko reported.
Klitschko later added that another missile strike was reported at a block of flats in Kyiv’s Pechersk district.
Moreover, air defence systems went off in Poltava, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Odesa, Cherkasy, and Khmelnytsky regions. Trukha writes about explosions in Kharkiv, head of the Kharkiv military administration Oleh Synyehubov confirmed this report.
Ukrainian journalists also say that explosions can be hears in Kryvy Rih.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi informed about blasts in the city that left a part of it without electricity.
At 6:00 PM Kyiv time, the mayor said that 80% of Lviv is left without electricity. The city’s heating supplied is interrupted, there’s no hot water. Busses and trolleybuses are no longer operating on their routes. All schoolchildren are in shelters with their teachers. Sadovyi says that one person was injured in the missile strikes, he was rushed to hospital.
The Ukrainian air force spokesperson said that the Russian army launched around 100 X-101 and X-555 missiles, UNIAN reports. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recorded a video address, saying that Ukraine had been targeted by 85 missiles.
He called on citizens to remain in shelters.
Kharkiv’s metro came to a standstill following the strikes, the Politika Strany outlet reports, citing Suspilne. Ukraine’s DTEK energy company told Kyiv residents about emergency blackouts.
Deputy head of the president’s office Kyrylo Tymoshenko has described the energy infrastructure situation as critical.
“Most hits are reported in the center and in the north of the country. The situation is tough in the capital, special emergency load shedding schedules are introduced. Ukrenerho is forced to launch emergency blackouts,” he wrote.
Half of Kyiv residents are left without electricity, Klitschko clarified.
Metro in Kyiv:
Two strikes were carried out on Zhytomyr, Mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn said. According to him, missiles hit an energy supply facility which left the city without power. Mayor of Rivne, northwest Ukraine, Oleksandr Tretiak also said that a part of the city has no electricity after a critical infrastructure facility was targeted.
Meanwhile, Point reports that Moldova and Transnistria are experiencing power issues, citing social media posts.
On 14 November, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Russia’s reparations for Ukraine. The document envisions creating a list to document all damages that Russia has caused to Ukraine.
The resolution was backed by 94 countries, 14 opposed, and 73 more abstained. Belarus, Syria, China, Cuba, Iran, Zimbabwe, and Eritrea are among those who voted against the document.
