NYT: Israel provides Ukraine with ‘basic intelligence’ about Iranian drones used by Russia in Ukraine War

Israel has been providing Ukraine with “basic intelligence” about Iranian drones that Russia uses in the Ukraine War, The New York Times reports, citing a senior Ukrainian official.

Furthermore, a private Israeli firm provides Ukraine with “satellite imagery of Russian troop positions”, the source added. 

Nevertheless, Israel refused to provide Ukraine with air defence systems, “reluctant to provoke Russia into obstructing Israeli airstrikes in Syria”, the newspaper’s source claims. 

Russian forces have been using several types of Iranian drones in the war in Ukraine. Among them — kamikaze drone Shahed-136. Back in September, Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported to have shot down that kind of drone for the first time. 

On 10 October, Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat said that two Iranian drones, used by Russia to attack Ukraine, had been launched from the territory of Belarus.
