Head of the occupying administration of Enerhodar Andriy Shevchik has been injured in a blast in the entrance hall of his apartment building, the elected mayor of Enerhodar Dmytro Orlov stated. Russian state news agency TASS also reported the explosion, citing the local law enforcement.
“The circumstances of the incident are being verified, but we have been able to confirm that the head of the “people’s administration” Shevchik and his guards were injured in the blast. They were hospitalised with injuries of varying severity,” Orlov said.
Due to the fact that none of the other residents of the building were injured in the attack, the mayor of Enerhodar suggested that it was an assassination attempt on Andriy Shevchik.
“A homemade explosive device was planted inside an electric wiring box in the entrance way,” a local law enforcer told TASS, adding that Shevchik has repeatedly received threats from Ukraine. The explosive device detonated as the head of the occupying administration entered his apartment building.
On 28 February, the Russian Defence Ministry announced that it had taken control of Enerhodar. Russian troops also reported that they had captured Berdyansk, Melitopol and the territory around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
