Officer Adam Khamkhoev from Ingushetia was killed in combat in Ukraine, according to The Magas Times. He was the nephew of Yunus-bek Yevkurov, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Defence, says Fortanga, a local media outlet. Khamkhoev, who was commander of an air assault squadron, was killed last night.
“Adam was an alumnus of the Guards Higher Airborne Command School in Ryazan and served in Ulyanovsk. His name is well known within the airborne forces, he was a brilliant officer and a skilful commander. He was also one of the officers who used to help their Ingush compatriots outside Ingushetia,” says The Magas Times.
Khamkhoev’s body is expected to be delivered to his native Karabulak tomorrow, on 22 May. The body will be escorted by the townsfolk to his house, The Magas Times says.
Adam Khamkhoev was the nephew of Yunus-bek Yevkurov, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Defence. “Yevkurov helped him in his career a lot. Adam was the son of Yunus-bek’s sister and a fine man,” Fortanga cites its source.
Yevkurov has served as Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister since 2019.
