Belgorod residents hear blast at night

An explosion was heard in Belgorod on Tuesday night, local residents reported on social media.

There are numerous videos from last night, where one can hear a blast and the sound of car alarms going off. A RIA Novosti reporter heard a “loud bang, similar to the sound of a moderately strong explosion” in the city centre.

Several Belgorod residents confirmed hearing a blast followed by car alarms going off in the streets. There is no evidence of anti-aircraft warfare in the sky over Belgorod, according to RIA Novosti.

Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian officials have repeatedly reported shellings of border checkpoints. On 26 April, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the Belgorod governor, reported a Ukrainian attack on the village of Golovchino, adding that three people were injured. On 25 April, the village of Nekhoteyevka was also shelled, Gladkov stated.

On 1 May , another explosion was reported near Belgorod. Gladkov said that a fire had started at a Russian military facility, and one person was injured. On the same day, Roman Starovoyt, the Kursk governor stated that a railway bridge had collapsed in the region following an “act of sabotage.”
