Russia has launched ballistic missiles at residential buildings in the Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, in the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of the city’s Defense Council, said on Thursday.
Vilkul said Russian forces had launched two Iskander missiles at two apartment buildings. He subsequently reported that 10 people had been injured, one of them seriously, after his leg was blown off in the attack.
Acting Dnipropetrovsk region Governor Vladyslav Haivanenko said earlier on Thursday evening that five people had been injured in the attack, including one child, while a correspondent from Ukraine’s public broadcaster Suspilne reported that explosions had been heard in Kryvyi Rih, after which power outages occurred in the city.
Mykola Lukashuk, the head of the regional parliament, said four apartment buildings and infrastructure had suffered damage.
The region has come under heavy attack in recent days as Russia continues to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Both it and the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region were left almost completely without power following Russian attacks, Ukraine’s Energy Ministry reported on Thursday.
Dnipro, the capital of the Dnipropetrovsk region, was hit particularly hard, according to Mayor Borys Filatov, suffering a total blackout, and causing the city’s metro to suspend operations.
