Speaking during a press conference in Bishkek at the end of a two-day visit to Kyrgyzstan on Thursday, Vladimir Putin said that Russia was prepared to fight “to the last Ukrainian”, the Kremlin has announced.

Speaking to journalists ahead of his flight back to Moscow on Thursday evening, Putin confirmed that a US delegation was due in Russia early next week to discuss US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine.

Striking a defiant tone as he commented on ceasefire proposals, Putin said that if Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) troops left the frontlines, the fighting would cease, adding that: “If they don’t, we will achieve that by military means.”

Putin said that following negotiations in Geneva earlier this week, the 28 points of the original peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump had been divided into four parts, adding that Moscow “generally agrees” that the list of US points can be used as a basis for future agreements.

Russia would be ready to put in writing that it had no intention of attacking Europe, Putin said, adding that he “did not expect” any new US sanctions on Russian oil companies, since there had been no conflict between Moscow and Washington since the two leaders met in Alaska in August.

While Trump is yet to say who will join the US delegation in Moscow next week, the Russian team is to consist of presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, senior aide Yury Ushakov and representatives from the Foreign Ministry.
