Nine people were killed and at least another 40 were injured in a Russian drone strike on the city of Marhanets in the Dnipropetrovsk region of central Ukraine on Wednesday morning, Governor Serhiy Lysak has said on Telegram.
Lysak said earlier on Wednesday that four Russian drones had been shot down overnight in the Dnipropetrovsk region, as a result of which two people were injured, and announced the drone strike on Marhanets in a subsequent post. He said the number of wounded was likely to grow, and that one Russian drone had struck a company bus taking employees to work.
Explosions were also heard overnight in the Kyiv region and in the cities of Odesa, Poltava and Kharkiv.
Two people were injured in Odesa, in southern Ukraine, while civilian infrastructure, residential and commercial buildings suffered damage, according to the city authorities.
Volodymyr Kohut, the acting governor of the central Poltava region, said 13 drones struck the city of Poltava overnight, injuring six, three of whom had to be hospitalised.
In the Kyiv region, drone wreckage caused a fire at a hotel and restaurant complex, though no one was injured, the emergency services reported.
