One woman was killed overnight in Russia’s western Kursk region as both Russia and Ukraine continued to launch drones at each other’s territory.

The Ukrainian Air Force said on Tuesday that 26 Russian drones had been shot down over Ukraine overnight, while a further 19 had failed to reach their targets. It also said that Russia had launched an Iskander ballistic missile, but added that Ukrainian forces had managed to repel Russian attacks on the Sumy and Donetsk regions.

Meanwhile, over 100 Ukrainian drones were used to target the Russian city of Kursk and the surrounding region overnight, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.

The regional authorities said that an 85-year-old woman was killed and another nine people were injured in a drone strike on civilian infrastructure.

Alexander Khinshtein, the acting governor of the Kursk region, said that 24 apartment buildings were damaged and their residents were evacuated. The regional authorities also reported that drones had dropped explosives on three private houses, while another drone hit an ambulance garage, damaging 15 vehicles.

The Defence Ministry said there were several other drone strikes on gas pipelines, affecting both gas and electricity supply. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for terrorism into the attack.

On Monday, Khinshtein said that five people had died and that one person had been injured in Ukrainian attacks on the region in the course of the previous day.

On Sunday, a Russian ballistic missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Sumy killed 35 people and injured another 129, according to the latest figures.
