A 25-year-old soldier fell to his death from a 15th-floor window of a high-rise building in the city of Chelyabinsk in the Russian Urals on Monday, local outlet 74.ru reported.

The incident at the Manhattan apartment complex took place at around 1pm local time soon after military police officers were spotted near the building, the outlet wrote.

According to local news agency URA.ru, the unnamed man was a professional soldier who had deserted his military unit and who then attempted to escape his apartment through the window and climb onto the roof while his father talked to the police, but eventually “slipped and fell”. However, news outlet Ostorozhno Novosti said that the man was a conscript.

The soldier’s identity has not been revealed by official sources so far. Local law enforcement has not commented on the incident.

In February, a Russian musician suspected of donating money to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) died after falling from the 10th floor window of his St. Petersburg apartment during a police search of his home.
