The Russian military launched multiple ballistic missiles and drones at the Ukrainian capital overnight on Friday, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said on Saturday morning.
While the head of the capital’s military administration, Timur Tkachenko, initially reported that four people had been killed in the strikes, that number was later revised down to three in a Telegram post by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later on Saturday.
According to Klitschko, a fire broke out in one non-residential building immediately following the attack, several streets flooded due to damage to water pipes, and the entrance hall of Lukyanivska metro station was damaged.
One person was killed and another 12 were injured in a Russian airstrike on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia overnight, Governor Ivan Fedorov said on Saturday evening.
In a Saturday evening Telegram post, Zelensky called for “all those who help the Russian state in this war” to face pressure “no less than these strikes”, adding that only “in unity with the whole world” could this be achieved.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry announced that it had intercepted 46 Ukrainian drones overnight, which it said its air defences had prevented from reaching targets while flying over the Bryansk, Kursk, Kaluga, Tula, Voronezh and Belgorod regions, though it did not specify the total number of Ukrainian military drones launched into its airspace.
