A Russian airstrike on the city of Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine on Wednesday has killed 13 people, regional Governor Ivan Fyodorov announced on Telegram.
Fyodorov said Russia, which he called a terrorist state, had used glide bombs to attack the city’s industrial infrastructure, noting that it had “cynically struck the city in the middle of the day”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called Russia’s attack on the city “deliberate” and said that the emergency services were on site to provide help to the victims of the attack. As dozens of people had also been injured in the airstrike, Zelensky also warned that the attack’s death toll could still increase.
“There is nothing more cruel than bombing a city, knowing that ordinary civilians will suffer. We need to put pressure on Russia for its terror. … The only way to end such a war is through force,” Zelensky said
Russia’s Defence Ministry has yet to make an official comment on the attack.
Last month, seven people were killed and another 22 were injured in a Russian missile strike on the city.
