Three people have been killed and 15 more injured in a series of Russian attacks on the Kherson region of southeastern Ukraine, Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said on Wednesday.

According to Produkin, 14 settlements in total had been targeted in Russian airstrikes, including the city of Kherson itself, which suffered damage to energy infrastructure including gas pipelines.

A 38-year-old man was killed by shelling in the village of Mykilske, Prokudin added, before offering condolences to his family.

Kherson’s trolleybus depot was also targeted in another airstrike that caused damage to multiple vehicles, Kherson Mayor Roman Mrochko said.

Russian forces have in recent days been subjecting Kherson to a barrage of attacks. Two people were killed and four more were injured in Russian shelling of the city late on Sunday, according to independent news outlet Ukrainska Pravda, which also reported an attack on the city on Friday.

Ukraine’s Kherson region is divided in two by the vast River Dnipro, and despite Russian troops initially occupying the entire region, in late 2022 a Ukrainian counteroffensive on the city of Kherson forced Russian troops to retreat to the left bank of the river, leaving the right bank under Ukrainian control, while the Russian military occupies the left bank.
