Russian air defences shot down 101 Ukrainian drones overnight, the Defence Ministry said on Saturday, with fires reported at ammunition depots in the Krasnodar and Tver regions.
Some 53 drones were shot down over the Bryansk region, 18 over the Krasnodar region and 16 over the Azov Sea. The Tver, Belgorod, Smolensk, Kursk regions and annexed Crimea were also targeted in the Ukrainian drone attacks.
Two drones were “neutralised by air defences,” Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev wrote on Telegram, debris from which caused a fire and explosions at an ammunition depot in the village of Kamenny, independent news outlet Astra reported, adding that two military units were based there.
“For safety reasons, residents of the village living near the fire are being temporarily evacuated to nearby settlements,” Kondratyev wrote, adding that a temporary accommodation centre had been set up nearby.
Astra also reported that an ammunition depot in the village of Oktyabrsky in western Russia’s Tver region had been struck overnight.m The Staraya Toropa railway station, 10 kilometres south of the attack site, was evacuated after the drone attack, according to Telegram channel Baza.
The attack in Oktyabrsky occurred barely 20 kilometres from Toropets, where a devastating Ukrainian drone strike on an ammunition depot caused a huge explosion early on Wednesday.
