One person was killed and at least 40 were injured when a Russian glide bomb struck a residential building in the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Sunday.
A fire broke out between the 9th and 12th floors of the building, making evacuation difficult. There were at least four children among the more than 40 people injured, Terekhov said.
The attack followed lethal incidents in other areas of Ukraine on Saturday. Zaporizhzhia region Governor Ivan Fyodorov said that three people had been killed in a Russian missile strike on a farm near the town of Hulyaipole in southeastern Ukraine on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a married couple were killed and a 65-year-old woman was hospitalised with shrapnel wounds following a Russian strike on the outskirts of Odesa in southern Ukraine on Saturday evening, Odesa region Governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used the attacks to remind his country’s allies of what he saw as the capabilities he needed to win the war. “The only way to counter this terror is with a systemic solution, and that solution is long-range capabilities — enabling us to destroy Russian military aircraft at their bases. This is an obvious, sensible decision.”
Zelensky added that Russia had attacked Ukraine with around 30 missiles, more than 800 guided aerial bombs and almost 300 drones over the past week.
