Multiple Ukrainian drones struck the city of Belgorod, in southwestern Russia, on Tuesday, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram.

The first drone crashed into a local government building, injuring two women, smashing windows and damaging the façade, Gladkov said, adding that emergency services were on site.

A second drone struck the roof of a shopping centre, though it caused no injuries, Gladkov said.

Elsewhere in Russia, an oil refinery in the central Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod suspended operations after a drone attack caused a fire to break out, state-affiliated daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday, quoting a source at the refinery.

The Telegraph reported the main crude distillation unit, responsible for over half of the refinery’s production, had caught fire. Nizhny Novgorod Governor Gleb Nikitin said the fire had been put out at about 2pm. A refinery employee told Novaya Europe that the drone strike had not seriously damaged the refinery and that its refining capacity was unaffected.
