Russian missiles struck a hotel in the centre of Ukraine’s second city Kharkiv late on Wednesday, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote on his Telegram channel early on Thursday.

“Two missiles hit a hotel in the centre of Kharkiv. There were no soldiers there at the time, but there were 30 civilians, of whom 11 were wounded,” Terekhov said, adding that journalists from Turkey had been among the injured.

Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov wrote that one of the victims was in a critical condition in hospital, while eight others had suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Russian Defence Ministry said on Thursday that its air defences had shot down four Ukrainian drones over the Rostov, Tula and Kaluga regions overnight.

Kaluga Governor Vladislav Shapsha confirmed the attempted drone strike on his region, saying that a pumping station had been damaged. “There was no fire and there are no injuries. Emergency services are at the scene,” Shapsha wrote.

Rostov Governor Vasily Golubev and Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev also confirmed attacks on their regions, with both stressing that no injuries had been reported.
