An Antonov An-24 passenger aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on a frozen river in Yakutia in the Russian Far East on Thursday.

The Polar Airlines passenger plane missed the runway while coming into land at Zyryanka Airport and was forced to land on the frozen Kolyma River, the SHOT Telegram channel reported.

The report added that the incident was down to human error. None of the 30 passengers on board the aircraft at the time, or the four crew members, were injured. An inquiry into the incident is ongoing.

According to SHOT, the Antonov An-24 has been in operation since 1971, and has changed owner several time in its 52 years of service.
