The Freedom of Russia Legion, a Russian paramilitary group that fights alongside the Ukrainian military against invading Russian forces, carried out an attack on Russian territory on Sunday, it announced on its Telegram channel.
Assault units entered Russia’s Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, on Sunday, destroying a platoon stronghold near the village of Terebreno, the Telegram post said.
Ukrainian intelligence corroborated news of the attack on Sunday evening, saying it had “caused panic among personnel at the local garrison”.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, said the attack damaged three residential buildings, power lines and gas pipes.
