Transparency International Russia resumes operations overseas

Transparency International Russia, a team of anti-corruption experts, has dissolved its legal entity in Russia and relaunched the project outside of the country, the organisation reported on Tuesday.

The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office previously designated the Transparency International (TI) association headquartered in Berlin as an “undesirable” organisation. Organisations with that label are legally compelled to dissolve themselves as legal entities in Russia, and any individual who cooperates with them may face felony charges.

After the legal entity was dissolved, the Transparency International Russia staff located outside of Russia was officially accredited as the “Russian TI team in exile”.

The project team vowed to continue their work aimed towards “bringing about civil engagement in the fight against corruption in Russia and upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, integrity and honesty”.
