A Russian artillery attack on the city of Kostiantynivka in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region has left 16 people dead, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday.
Describing the “regular market square, shops and pharmacies” hit in the onslaught, Zelensky reported that many more people had been injured. “Sadly, the death toll may eventually increase,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram in a post that included CCTV footage of the strike.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that a total of 20 people had been injured in the attack, including a child.
UPD 16:47 UTC+3 A total of 31 people were injured by the strike, Ukraine’s Office of Prosecutor General revealed in an update. The agency has launched a probe into “violating warfare laws and customs”.

Russia attacked the Odesa region of Ukraine earlier on Wednesday, leaving one civilian dead. Ukraine’s capital Kyiv was also attacked with the Ukrainian Air Force saying it had detected 33 aerial targets overnight.
