Ukraine reports destruction of Russian missile system and crew in Crimea

Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) announced Wednesday that Ukrainian forces have blown up a Russian S-400 missile system on Cape Tarkhankut in the western part of Crimea.

The strike was carried out at around 10 AM on Wednesday.

“The explosion completely destroyed the system, its missiles, and the crew,” the statement reads.

The HUR emphasised that Russia has a very limited supply of such missile systems.

Petro Andryushchenko, advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, also reported the successful elimination of a Bastion coastal defence missile system. “It is one of the carriers of Onyx missiles, which the Russians use to attack Ukraine,” Andryushchenko noted, adding that the explosion also damaged Russian radars.

Local Telegram channels earlier published photographs from Olenivka, a settlement located on the cape, showing a column of smoke on the horizon. A map provided by independent news outlet Krym.Realii shows that the area houses an air defence base and launch pads.
