Navalny team announces global protest act coined ‘Putin is a killer’

The associates of Alexey Navalny have announced a global protest act called “Putin is a killer”, scheduled for 20 August, the day when Navalny was poisoned in 2020.

“Fear, violence, and murders is what Putin’s regime has been relying on for over 20 years.

Its first victims were people who resisted Putin and fought for Russia’s freedom and future inside the country. Now Putin has started a horrible war, the most pointless war of the 21st century against our neighbour country, a war that claims hundreds and thousands lives each day,” the Navalny Team said in a statement.

Navalny’s associates are calling on everyone “who resides in safe countries to take it to the streets” and make videos featuring the “Putin is a killer” phrase.

They announced a protest act scheduled for 4 June, the politician’s birthday, earlier, promising to “provide legal assistance and pay the fines for anyone needing this”.

“Take it to the squares of your cities, wherever you are, to support Navalny,” the Navalny team initially said.

They later suggested that people in Russia “choose whatever means of protesting they are capable of”.

Rallies were held in at least 120 cities worldwide, including Geneva, Prague, Tel Aviv, Paris, Buenos Aires, Sidney, Tokyo, Helsinki, Toronto, Mexico City, Stockholm.

At least 109 people were detained in Russia on that day.
