Sociologist Kagarlitsky sent to pretrial jail on ‘justifying terrorism’ charges

A court in Russia’s Syktyvkar has sent Boris Kagarlitsky, a sociologist and political scientist, to a pretrial jail on ‘justifying terrorism’ charges, as per OVD-Info.

Kagarlitsky is facing up to seven years in prison. The Komi region FSB department is in charge of the investigation.

Kagarlitsky’s lawyer says his client was charged due to a post mentioning last year’s Crimea bridge explosion. “The goal of what has happened is more or less clear from the military perspective. There will be supply issues, and not only in Crimea,” Kagarlitsky wrote. In his post, he also reviewed the economic and political consequences of the explosion.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) opened a criminal case against sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky for “justifying terrorism”, as was revealed yesterday. He pleads not guilty.

Boris Kagarlitsky is a Russian sociologist and professor at the Moscow Higher School for Social and Economic Sciences founded by Teodor Shanin.
