Moscow: man tries to set Lenin’s Mausoleum on fire

A man who tried to set Lenin’s Mausoleum on fire has been detained on Red Square, Telegram accounts Baza and Shot, as well as Russian state news agency RIA Novosti report, citing sources.

Yesterday evening, 37-year-old Konstantin Stachukov threw a Molotov cocktail in the direction of the mausoleum, Baza claims. The bottle hit the pavement and caught fire. An administrative protocol has been drawn up against the man for “failing to comply with the legal demand of a law enforcement employee”.

He’s currently being held in a police station, the motivation for his actions is being investigated, Shot reports. The Telegram channel notes that the mausoleum was not damaged.

In its turn, Telegram channel Mash reports that the bottle was thrown by a resident of the city of Chita. “Two months ago, he was also detained for erratic behaviour and put in a mental hospital,” Mash writes.

In March, Russian state news agency TASS reported, citing a law enforcement source, that the police detained a man who “intended to enter the mausoleum while behaving erratically and saying that Vladimir Lenin had to allegedly absolve him of his sins”.

At the beginning of February, another man tried to kidnap Lenin’s body from the mausoleum. The police said that the detained man was intoxicated.
