France to send long-range Scalp missiles to Ukraine

UPDATE

Reuters reports that France intends to supply Kyiv with 50 Scalp missiles.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced today at the NATO summit in Vilnius that Paris will provide long-range Scalp missiles to Kyiv.

“We have decided to deliver new missiles which will give Ukraine the capacity to strike deeply,” BFMTV quoted Macron as saying.

Scalp is the French name for the Anglo-French Storm Shadow, a long-range cruise missile that the Ukrainian army has already been receiving from Great Britain since May of this year.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reacted to the news, calling the decision “erroneous”.

“This decision will have consequences for Ukraine because it will naturally force us to retaliate,” Peskov said, adding that the move “will only exacerbate the fate of the Kyiv regime”.
