Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Wagner PMC chief Yevgeny Prigozhin days after the mercenary group’s rebellion, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
According to Peskov, the three-hour meeting, during which Putin “evaluated” the mutiny and the current state of the Ukraine war, took place on 29 June and included a total of 35 Wagner commanders.
“Putin listened to the commanders’ explanations and offered them further options for employment and combat involvement. The commanders gave their version of what happened. They emphasised that they are staunch supporters and soldiers of the president,” Peskov said.
The French newspaper Liberation previously wrote citing Western intel sources that Putin and Prigozhin had met in the Kremlin on 1 July, adding that head of the Russian Guard Viktor Zolotov and foreign intelligence chief Sergey Naryshkin were also present.
