Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Investigative Committee in the Tyumen region report to have “neutralised” a Russian national, who had been allegedly planning to carry out a terrorist attack on Ukraine’s orders, during arrest, as per Russia’s state news agency RIA Novosti which cites the FSB press service.
“Illegal activity of supporters of nationalist ideology, Russian citizens, has been stopped on the territory of the Tyumen region,” the press service said. According to their statement, one of the alleged criminals opened fire during arrest and was “neutralised” by return fire.
The FSB claims that the men were preparing a terrorist attack at a fuel and energy facility in the Tyumen region on orders of Ukraine’s paramilitary groups. The Investigative Committee notes that the 38-year-old man was killed back on 4 July.
According to the information shared by the committee, the man was “making an attempt on the life of the FSB employees by using firearms and an explosive device”.
Yesterday, 5 July, a Ukrainian-born Russian national was arrested in the airport of Yekaterinburg on suspicion of high treason for financing the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to the FSB, the 39-year-old man had transferred money to a bank account used to collect funds for the Ukrainian army and “committed specific acts aimed at acquiring satellite comms equipment for enemy artillery units for the purpose of transmitting coordinates of the Russian Armed Forces”. The detainee was charged with high treason and is currently in a pre-trial jail. He faces 12 to 20 years in prison or a life sentence.
