Russian documentary makers from Yakutia Evgenia Arbugaeva and Maxim Arbugaev invited to join Oscars’ Academy

Their film Hallout was nominated for an Academy Award in 2023

Evgenia Arbugaeva and Maxim Arbugaev, documentary makers from Russia’s Yakutia, have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after their film Hallout was nominated for a best documentary short subject Oscar in 2023, Variety reports.

Moreover, composer Anna Drubich, daughter of actress Tatyana Drubich and director Sergey Solovyov, is also on the list. She composed music for Canadian director Daniel Roher’s Navalny documentary and several other works.

The list of new Oscars members also features producer Melanie Miller and film editor Langdon Page who worked on Navalny, a documentary that takes a close look at the Russian politician’s poisoning. The film won an Oscar in 2023.

In total, 398 artists and filmmakers were invited to join the Academy. Singer Taylor Swift, actors Austin Butler (Elvis) and Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) are among them. The total number of Oscars members will now reach 10,817.
