Authorities of Russia’s Ivanovo region confirm deaths of Il-22 crew in Wagner rebellion

Authorities of Russia’s Ivanovo region have revealed that an Il-22 plane crew stationed in the region were killed in the Wagner Group coup on 24 June, the statement is available on the official website.

“I offer my condolences and share the sorrow of this loss with the families of the slain heroes. While serving in the military, each of them showed qualities worthy of a true officer — valour, courage, dedication, and loyalty to their oath — by honourably fulfilling their military duties. Eternal memory to the heroes,” head of the Ivanovo region administration Stanislav Voskresensky said.

He instructed relevant agencies to provide all the necessary help to their families.

The authorities did not specify the names of the killed service members but IStories note that they were published online on social media:

  • Il-22 crew captain Artyom Sharoglazov, born in 1991 in Ivanovo. The man is survived by his two children;
  • radioman, senior warrant officer Sergey Starushok, born in Ukraine;
  • senior flight engineer, senior sergeant Alexey Skrykov, born in 1994;
  • instructor, lieutenant colonel Artyom Milovanov, born in 1979;
  • flight technician, captain Igor Volochilov, born in 1973
  • captain Viktor Popov, born in 1980;
  • navigator Gennady Belyakin;
  • senior radio operator Viktor Podrepny.

Russian President Vladimir Putin lauded the killed pilots on Tuesday, saying that they honourably fulfilled their military duties, and asked for a minute of silence in their memory.
