Drones in Moscow region

Baza, Mash, Shot, and 112 reported drones falling in the Moscow region and the Greater Moscow area. One of the drones fell and exploded near the village of Lukino. Debris of two more UAVs was found in the Naro-Fominsk district near a military base.

Mash says two drones fell in the vicinity of Kalininets near Naro-Fominsk. The locals heard two explosions around 5:30 in the morning. The police, Emergency Ministry, sappers and representatives of the Defence Ministry are working at the location.

Russia’s law enforcement has informed TASS that three drones had been taken down in Greater Moscow and the Moscow region using EW support. Preliminary indications are that nobody was injured.

Andrey Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow region, has commented on the drone incident:

“Two devices fell down today as a result of actions by our servicemen at around 5:30 and 5:50 in the morning while approaching a military warehouse. Its debris was found, no destruction or injured people were reported. The security agencies are checking things on the matter, the area has been cordoned off. I ask the locals to remain calm,” he wrote.

The Russian Defence Ministry has commented on the drone incident as well. The agency referred to it as a terror attack and claimed that three UAVs had lost control and fell due to the usage of EW.

Shaheds attack Ukraine

The Ukrainian General Staff has reported that its air defences had taken down 30 out of 33 Iranian kamikaze drones that attacked Ukraine overnight. Six drones were destroyed in the Khmelnytskyi region. The General Staff has also reported that Russia had launched seven surface-to-air guided S-300 missiles and one Iskander-M cruise missile against the civilian infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia.

Pentagon gets mistaken

The Pentagon has overestimated what the US military aid to Ukraine in the past two years has been worth by over $ billion. In this fiscal year, the Pentagon’s accountants were mistaken by $3.6 billion.

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said a detailed review of the accounting error found that the military services used replacement costs rather than the book value of equipment that was pulled from Pentagon stocks and sent to Ukraine. She said final calculations show there was an error of $3.6 billion in the current fiscal year and $2.6 billion in the 2022 fiscal year, which ended last September.

As a result, the department now has additional money in its coffers to use to support Ukraine as it pursues its counteroffensive against Russia.

Based on previous estimates announced on 13 June, the US had committed more than $40 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since Russia invaded. Using the new calculation, the US has actually provided less than $34 billion in aid, AP notes. The US approved the transfer of 160 howitzers, 31 Abrams tanks, 109 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 38 HIMARS vehicles, and 90 Stryker armoured vehicles.
