Selima Ismailova, 19, taken back to Chechnya after being detained upon running away from abusive home

Law enforcement officers have sent 19-year-old Selima Ismailova, who was detained in Moscow’s Vnukovo airport yesterday, back to Chechnya, Ostorozhno Media reports, citing her lawyer Anastasia Tyunyayeva.

According to the lawyer, the young woman registered for the flight to Grozny, Chechnya’s capital, and boarded the plane. The defence was not allowed to review the case files, which were also transferred to Chechnya. Tyunyayeva says that Selima will be met by another lawyer who will be continuing her case in Grozny.

It was previously reported that two law enforcement officers from Grozny had landed in Moscow in the evening of 12 June, claiming that they had orders to take the young woman home. They bought her a ticket home for the morning of 13 June.

Selima Ismailova ran away from home because of domestic violence and planned to go to Germany, where she lived until 2021. According to the human rights defenders, law enforcement representatives detained her at the Moscow airport on the pretext of suspecting the young woman to have stolen 85,000 rubles (€938) from her father’s female relative.
