F-18 fighter jet crashes during demonstration flight in Spain

An F-18 fighter jet belonging to the Spanish Air and Space Force has crashed during a demonstration flight at an air base in the city of Zaragoza, El País reports.

The pilot managed to eject, his life is not in any danger, however he was taken to a hospital with leg wounds.

According to Spain’s Civil Guard, the fighter jet faced “some problems” during the flight, which led to the crash. No people present in the vicinity of the accident were hurt.

El País clarifies that this is not the first incident of the kind when it comes to F-18 fighter jets — the first crash involving an F-18 happened in 1998. In 2000, two F-18 fighter jets crashed in the air; in 2017, an F-18 jet went down during take-off, which resulted in the pilot’s death.
