Erdoğan leads Turkish presidential race with 49.24% votes, 100% ballots counted

The incumbent Turkish president Recep Erdoğan is leading the presidential race in the country with 49.24% of the popular vote, which is not enough for a decisive victory and confirms there will be a second round of the election. 100% of the ballots have been counted already, reports state TV channel TRT. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is in second place with 45% of the votes.

Erdoğan is leading the race with a more than 2 million votes margin. Sinan Oğan follows the two with 5.2% of the popular vote. If the second round of the election is declared, it will be scheduled for 28 May.

A presidential election took place in Turkey yesterday. Over 50 million people took part in the election; Turkey’s Electoral Council says no violations were recorded at polling stations.

ORC, a politics research agency, published a survey result on 12 May which said 51.7% of voters were planning to vote for Kılıçdaroğlu, 44.2% for Erdoğan, and 2.8% for Oğan.
