Navalny sent to solitary confinement cell for 15th time

Russian politician Alexey Navalny was placed in a solitary confinement cell the next morning after his release from this punishment, the politician reported on his social media profiles.

Navalny was released from the punitive cell at 8:00 PM and re-incarcerated there at 9:30 AM.

“‘Convict Navalny is not amenable to correctional work and does not draw the proper conclusions for himself.’ Thus, my SHIZO [Russian abbreviation for solitary confinement cell] time counter has now reached 165 days,” the politician noted.

Navalny has been placed in solitary confinement for the 15th time.

The last time this measure was applied against Navalny was on 26 April, straight after he spent 15 days in the punitive cell. “The hard rule of prisons, which was strictly followed both in the USSR and Russia, got abolished for me. Normally, after 15 days in the SHIZO, the prisoner must spend at least one day in a regular cell before getting another 15 days in the SHIZO,” he tweeted.

The same day the news emerged that the politician was now facing a criminal case on a terrorism charge.

“The prosecutor informed me that a new case has been initiated against me, on terrorism. Under this case, I will be tried by a military court,” Navalny noted.

It is claimed that the new case derives from the extremism case launched against Navalny in October 2022.
